Bio

I am a family doctor and am the board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. I practice family medicine in the Department of Family Medicine in Santa Rosa.

I am originally from North Dakota, moving to Santa Rosa just-in-time to begin junior high. I attended Montgomery High School and did my undergraduate training at UC Davis, receiving a degree in cultural anthropology.

I then spent the next 4 years attending UC Davis' School of Medicine. From there, I completed a 3-year family practice residency at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California, just south of Stockton.

I returned to my hometown of Santa Rosa and practiced family medicine, first with my father, and then with Dr. James Stone for the past 17 years. We joined the Permanente medical group here in Santa Rosa at the same time in May of 2007.

I now work side-by-side with a wide variety of multi-talented and caring medical professionals. I especially enjoy and appreciate the philosophy and spirit of teamwork in the care of patients and each other in the Kaiser system.

My interests include reading, bad golf, and anything to do with the Great Outdoors. I particularly enjoy hiking and bird watching.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I am a family physician, new to Kaiser Permanente since May of 2007. I have had a private practice in Family Medicine since 1978, having returned to Santa Rosa to join my father in his practice of family medicine. I graduated from Montgomery high school , received my BA in anthropology from UC Davis, then stayed on in Davis for the 4 years of medical school. Following those 8 hot years, I continued in the warm weather by doing my 3 year residency in family medicine at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp (Stockton), California. The strong influence of growing up in a medical family led me into medicine, and the influence of my father's love for his craft led me to my career in Family Medicine. For me, the joy of being intimately involved, over time, with people in their pursuit of a healthy and happy life is the true reward and guiding light of my profession.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I have been a member of the California Medical Association and the Sonoma County chapter since 1978, having been on the board of directors and served on several committees over the years.

Interests

One of my favorite hikes was years ago in the fall during a harvest moon. We went to the top of Bald Mountain in Sugarloaf State Park and watched the sunset as the full moon rose over the snow capped Sierras. A most memorable moment shared with those I love.

Family & Friends

People in my life:

Arlene, my partner in all and my best friend, is a pharmacist and my favorite drug. Every day brings new insights and adventure to my life and makes me appreciate every moment of every day.

My children and people I care about:

My children are grown and married, and I have my grandson Cole, who is now 18 months old and getting more fun to be around every day. It turns out he's actually more the teacher in our relationship than I am.

Kimberly is my beautiful daughter and mother of Cole. She is an attorney and loves the profession. She would always lift my spirits when they flag.

My son, Sky, one of my favorite people, is a health and safety consultant in Santa Rosa and is married to the very lovely Erin, an esthitician. Their current children are Mittens the cat and Shadow the labradoodle.

My pets:

Two cats own us. Their names are Tahiti the elder and Maybelle the kitten. They rule the roost but are a constant joy. I wonder how they'll adapt to the puppy we're planning to bring home?

Travel

Favorite place in the world:

There's no place like home and it's always been my favorite place in the world.

One of my recent trips:

In March of 2007 we went to Puerto Vallarta and had a wonderful time enjoying all of the Mexican culture and food. The weather was beautiful, the accomodations outstanding and the entire family got along for the whole week. Wonderful.
