Bio

I have been a Pediatrician at Kaiser Santa Rosa since 1988. During this time I have had the opportunity to get to know many wonderful children and families and colleagues. I have also watched a few of my ex-patients grow into parenthood themselves!

I love the practice of pediatrics-the opportunity to interact with children and parents throughout many stages of development and to offer support, information and intervention when needed. I view well checks as a chance to get to know the child and family and to help with preventative and developmental aspects of care. Urgent visits are times to intervene- to evaluate problems and concerns, and assist in care. Teen visits can be fun, and challenging, as the teen takes control of his or (frequently in my practice) her health and life choices.

I attended college at UC Berkeley with a major in Neurobiology, then attended medical school at UC San Francisco. I completed my residency in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital, then did a fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at Children's Hospital Boston.

I worked for several years at a community health center in the Dorchester area of Boston, then at North country Clinic in Arcata before moving to Santa Rosa. I appreciate the incredible organization and support that Kaiser Permanente offers and its access to resources including specialty consultation and patient and clinician education.

I am married and live in Sebastopol with my husband Stan, and our younger son, Alan (and our dog Bengal). My older son is attending college in San Diego.

I have had a lifelong interest in art, as well as medicine, and do as much painting as I can. I have displayed my work in the Diversity Art Show at Kaiser Permanente yearly and have also participated in Art at the Source for several years.

I recently combined my Pediatric practice with my friend and colleague Dr. Cori Glover- in an attempt to balance my personal and professional life. I will now be available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, On days I am not at work, my patients will preferentially see Dr. Glover-in this way we hope you will get to know both of us well.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

It is an honor to be able to interact with children and families at significant moments in their lives: to attend births, watch children grow and develop, evaluate illness, and hopefully to prevent preventable problems.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

Fellow American Academy of Pediatrics
Member Sonoma County Medical Association

I have a special interest in adolescent medicine.

Great health resources that I refer to:

Teen Choices and Challenges
Medline Plus Health Info
California Parenting Institute
Vaccine Education Center
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

An interesting story from my training:

While I was a resident at Boston City Hospital, the House Officers Association (Union of Interns and Residents) had a brief strike in order to improve patient care services. The slogan was "Better Working Conditions mean Better Patient Care."

Interests

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I paint mostly figuratively, with some landscapes and still lifes. Some photos of my recent paintings are available to view. I have participated in Art at the Source open studios the past few years and love it when patients and their families come!

I often paint with a group of women in Sebastopol at a studio called Art Heaven, and I have taken some wonderful classes at the JC, with Maury Lapp, Lisa Beernsten, and Alan Azhderian.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

Several years ago I traveled to France with my group of art friends. We painted in Collioure where there were gold frames around town to show sites that inspired Matisse and Derain masterpieces.

Another year, my father treated my extended family to a trip to Galapagos. Amazing to see the Blue footed Boobies and Lonesome George! The younger generation did a great "blue footed booby dance" on our last day.

Favorite place in the world:

I really do love Sonoma County! I love the nature, the space, the community.....

One of my recent trips:

I just took a trip back to Boston. I was impressed by all the Red Sox support and how much has changed since I lived there!
