BioI was born and raised in Alabama , the middle of five children. My father was an orthopedic surgeon who strongly pushed all of his children towards a career in medicine, so much so that most of us had already been in the operating room before age ten! Hence I became interested in medicine at an early age primarily due to the example my father had set. From watching him, it was clear to me that medicine was a career that could provide intellectual challenge and stimulation, and provided a direct way to positively impact the lives of many. | |

More details about my specialty:I chose Cardiology as a sub-specialty in part due to the influence of some wonderful professors who were my instructors during internship and residency. I have been a musician since age seven starting out with accordion for five years and later switching to guitar and bass at the peak of the British invasion, i.e. Beatlemania. My version of "Yesterday" was the hit of the local junior high party circuit. In high school I sang with a wonderful glee club in which we toured a number of southern states, and also did a summer European tour as well. I continued a capella singing for 4 years at Yale, the last year being with the Whiffenpoofs. My first visit to the Bay Area was during a Whiff concert tour around the country. Over the years I have continued to sing and play guitar with a number of bands playing different styles of music. For the last 14 years I've played with an R&B band called Blue Moon Dance Band, playing at clubs, parties, weddings, etc. in the North bay. If you like to dance, come check us out. |

People in my life:I met my wife Pamela in our last year of college. During my years in medical school and residency she began working in radio and then television. She was a producer for an investigative news team at CBS in Chicago and after our move to the Bay area she continued as a producer and reporter for Channel 4, Channel 5, and KQED. After our first child she decided to become a full time mom. She is an avid cook and loves reading, pottery, art, soccer, and skiing. My children and people I care about:We are fortunate to have 3 boys, the oldest having graduated from U.C. Berkeley in Physics. Our middle son recently graduated from USC and our youngest is in high school. I am happy to |

An adventure I've had:One of our more interesting family vacations involved exchanging homes with a family living in a tiny village of 80 people in eastern France. We lived in a stone farmhouse originally built in the late 1700's. No one in the village spoke a word of English and thus, by necessity, our French skills improved. |
