Bio

I was born and raised in Mumbai, India. The eldest of two daughters, I was the first one in my family to pursue a career in medicine and my sister soon followed. Medical imaging intrigues me and it is very rewarding to treat people with illness.

I completed my medical school training at BYL Nair Hospital, Mumbai University, in India. Following this, I moved to the United States and completed my training in Diagnostic Radiology at New England Medical Center, Tufts University in Boston. To understand further the applications of MRI, I chose my fellowship in Body MRI which I also completed at New England Medical Center. After completing the fellowship, I joined Kaiser Permanente in the year 2003 and now live in Santa Rosa.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

Being a radiologist is to be predominantly a "doctor's doctor." I enjoy radiology as it involves different areas of medicine. Also, one has to have a vast knowledge of normal anatomy. Being able to review the internal structures and finding an abnormality is a challenge I enjoy. I also enjoy my interactions with patients that occur during radiological procedures and mammography. Radiologic procedures have the ability to obtain tissue for pathologic diagnosis with minimal intervention. Radiology is a diagnostic as well as therapeutic field of medicine.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

My special interest is to further enhance my knowledge and understanding in MRI as well as multidetector CT. That is why I completed a fellowship in MRI body imaging and continue to update my knowledge in this field.

Interests

After moving to Santa Rosa from New England, I ventured to a Raiders game and it was a great experience. The "Raider Nation" makes it great to be there! Although I still am a New England Patriots fan, I also like the Bay Area sports teams!

I love to travel with my family and try to make it back to visit India at least once a year.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

I toured through the jungle in India and saw a lion 10 feet away without any barrier between the lion and me!

Favorite place in the world:

My favorite place in the world is to visit India. India is very diverse and the food is different in various parts of the country. The culture, the color and the diversity in India is fascinating. I also enjoy visiting my sister and my extended family in India. We visit India almost every year.

One of my recent trips:

My recent trip was to India. We stayed in Mumbai for few days with my sister and then visited Kerala, the southeast portion of India. This was my first visit to Kerala and it was lovely! We went to the Periyar jungle as well as stayed on a houseboat. We saw elephants on the street.
