Bio

I was born on Coronado island and have always loved the ocean. I spent much of my childhood on the beach or in the pool. After attending the University of California at San Diego with a Biology degree, I was involved in biochemistry research with Scripps Clinic, UC San Diego and La Jolla Cancer Research. I attended medical school in Milwaukee and left the beautiful Pacific for the first time.

My interest in Radiology was inspired by my experience at UCSF while in medical school. Radiology is a completely fascinating specialty that never ceases to amaze me. My residency training in Milwaukee and subsequent fellowship training in Body Imaging were really enjoyable. I spent two years as an assistant professor at Loyola University in Chicago and found academics quite interesting. My career includes several years in private practice before joining the Kaiser Permanente team. I am grateful to be a part of such an outstanding organization and to work with such an excellent team of physicians.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

Radiology includes many imaging modalities including MRI, CT, and ultrasound. The specialty of Radiology offers a very challenging array of cases from all other medical specialties and is a rapidly changing specialty. The availability of new technologies provide a very exciting milieu in which to practice. There is never a dull moment! I am interested in all aspects of imaging, but have a particular devotion to musculoskeletal radiology and sports medicine. At Kaiser Santa Rosa we are creating a new sports medicine department that will include various specialty departments.

Great health resources that I refer to:

The Perricone Promise is a valuable resource for nutrition education. Diet is key to our health and quality of life.

Travel

An adventure I've had:

I recently traveled to Africa and saw the magnificent Victoria Falls. The trip was part of a Radiology conference sponsored by UCSF. The safari was an amazing experience with elephants, hippos, giraffes, cape buffalo, zebras, baboons and other wildlife. The African bush is a truly unique place.

My experience in Africa reminds my how grateful I am to be a US citizen. Many of the people in Africa are desperately poor and have short lives due to AIDS and other diseases. It is difficult to realize how much suffering there is in other parts of the world.
