Bio

Welcome to Family Medicine Services at Kaiser, where I have enjoyed working since 1997. Currently I work in 'Urgent Care' seeing patients with same day appointments. This means that I see patients who have other regular providers, MDs or NPs, on an as-needed basis. For me this is not only a challenge, but a way to stay current and in communication with a lot of my colleagues, with whom I share my concerns and successes about their patients. I enjoy the diversity of patient and provider issues and interactions. Being a very social person, this arrangement fits my personality well.

I believe practicing medicine derives from a partnership with patients. Sharing information and arriving at mutual understandings tends to make for good outcomes for the patient and the provider.

Prior to arriving at Kaiser I worked with private physicians in the practices of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Internal Medicine. I also worked as a nurse practitioner at the Family Practice Center, previously affiliated with Sonoma County Community Hospital, then Sutter, in Santa Rosa. My career has also taken me into the teaching arenas at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College, among others.

Having worked in many other places, I am always amazed at how much Kaiser has to offer for patients. Having specialists available on campus with whom one can confer easily is a real advantage. Having a computerized medical record system for patients makes a big difference in being able to access patient information and give more complete care. And the resources in terms of services and referrals, medical information and updates, pharmaceuticals, research, and technological support all make Kaiser the most incredible organization I have worked for. I hope all our patients can appreciate the very rich resources that Kaiser provides.

My origins are from the FAR EAST: New York City to be exact. Having spent time in Vermont, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, my East Coast accent is a blend of all these. But I think I can actually call myself a West Coast girl by now. Most people can't hear the old accent come through. I always love meeting patients who are former New Yorkers. They make me feel at home. But so do our Sonoma County clientele now.

My Medical Specialty

Current projects or research:

Co-investigator in a research study published in HEADACHE journal, July-August 2003. "Headache Management Program Improves Outcomes for Patients" The study was conducted here at the Santa Rosa Kaiser facility Neurology Department in cooperation with Duke University Dept of Health Care Policy.

Interests

Love traveling to exotic places to ski, including the Austrian and French Alps. Actually got to go to an Austrian MD for treatment after skiing one day, not due to a broken leg, but due to a dog bite! There was a friendly dog sitting on a bar stool next to me on my last ski day at St. Anton am Arlberg last year. When I stopped petting him, he bit me! Had to go get a tetanus shot and wound care! Imagine!

Family & Friends

My children and people I care about:

Three children, all Sonoma County grown, are all in far away places in pursuit of their career and educational goals. Empty nesting has its challenges.

Travel

One of my recent trips:

My first ocean sailing trip was at night from Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta with two other crew in a 36 foot cutter. I learned how the loss of the sighted horizon, and the rhythm of the waves play havoc with one's balance mechanism and GI system. But in the light of day I loved the Mexican seaports, the majesty of the ocean, and the beauty of aquatic Nature.
