Adult Weight Management

We all have something in our lives that we would like to change. If being overweight is that "something" you would like to change, we are here and we are offering our help.

If your primary care doctor, your surgeon, your physical therapist, or even your podiatrist keep mentioning to you that losing weight would be good for your health, we do this because we believe that maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. And we want to help you stay healthy and live a longer, happier life.

We believe that success comes from within each person. Each of us can find personal motivation to improve our health and our lives. Our classes do not emphasize just your weight. Often when people only focus on their weight, they are not successful. When you focus on your thoughts, your feelings, your nutrition and exercise habits, and your well-being, you are setting yourself up for long-term success. Success in weight management is personal and different for each person. We will help you identify what will help you personally in making small changes in your life that, over time, will lead to a healthier weight and healthier life.

Our Instructors

We pay special attention to choosing our class instructors. Our instructors have an extensive background in facilitating classes and workshops, working with groups, families, and individuals, and the majority of them have a Master’s level education in psychology or counseling. The Weight Management Coordinator makes sure that everything concerning the classes is taken care of and your class experience is as good as possible.

Programs and Services

We offer two basic types of weight management classes:

  • Lifestyle and weight management classes
  • Bariatric (weight loss) surgery classes

In both categories you can choose either a one session "overview" class or a 14-session (one session per week) class, which offers more in-depth information and long-term support from the class instructor and fellow class participants.

To help you improve your chances for success, we also offer many self-directed resources. You can log on and take advantage of our new interactive web-based programs:

In our Health Education Center, you are welcome to pick up free pamphlets on many topics, use our computer to search for scientific articles, and borrow or purchase books, cookbooks, videos, and pedometers. You can also learn what’s available in the community and which fitness centers in the area offer a membership discount to Kaiser members.
