Bio

I was born and raised in Southern California, the youngest of 7 children. I moved out of the hustle and bustle of the greater Los Angeles area to attend college in Washington State. There I earned a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Biology. This educational focus was a perfect foundation for becoming a Family Practice physician because I learned so much about how our cultural perspective relates to how we define wellness and disease.

I moved to Palo Alto, California to attend Stanford Medical School and afterward to Santa Rosa, California to attend my residency program at Sutter Medical Center. I felt at home here and chose to set up my career and family life in Sonoma County.

For the first 9 years of my practice I worked with a small medical group in Rohnert Park. I was fortunate to have a busy practice and establish many long-term patients. Sadly, my office closed and moved to Santa Rosa in March of 2008. I really felt that it was important for me to stay in the community I had served during the last 9 years. I was fortunate to join Kaiser Permanente in Rohnert Park in July, 2008.

My Medical Specialty

More details about my specialty:

I chose family practice as my specialty because I greatly value the relationships I have with patients. I have found that it is important to people to have a doctor they can talk to and who listens to their concerns with an open mind. I have had the privilege of treating entire extended families through all phases of life. I love pediatrics and have always had a great number of young families in my practice. I am very interested in women's health and the unique concerns we have. I have cherished the experience of end of life medicine and helping patients and there families cope with dying. I enjoy the opportunity to care for patients of any ages and multi-generational family medicine.

My specialty interests and affiliations within my field:

I have extensive experience in women's health, pediatrics and sports medicine.

Great health resources that I refer to:

Our Bodies, Ourselves; The Wisdom of Menopause; Sears Pediatrics

An interesting story from my training:

As a medical student at Stanford, I had the opportunity to travel to Mexico and work in a rural clinic. I found the people to be very kind and gracious. From that experience, I learned that in many cultures, disease can be interpreted much differently than in our own. Since then, I really try to take the time to understand my patient's personal history and identity which helps me care for them as individuals.
